The Eggs have hatched!!

The eggs have hatched into cute little chicks!!! The first three hatched VERY early Saturday morning, and two more hatched late Saturday night. So all together we have five chicks. We don't think anymore are going to hatch. Four chicks are yellow and one is brown.~Ashley~

This is the brooder box. It has a light to keep the chicks warm, a water and food bowl, and some of dads old shirts.

We dipped the chick's beak into the water so he would know how to drink.

Sammy is VERY interested in the chicks. He just sits there  and watches them all day.

Chicks!!!!

About two weeks ago we picked up a dozen fertilized eggs(there are REAL chicks in there)!! We also rented an  incubator so the little chicks can grow!! It takes about 21 days after you put them in the incubator for them to hatch. So that means they will hatch around friday! Then I will post another blog about the hatched chicks!! I can't wait!! ~ Ashley

Medieval Faire

On Friday the homeschool group put on a Medieval Faire to teach the kids about life during this time period.  Christine and Cody were in charge of 1 of the 6 teaching booths that each of the kids would visit for about 15 minutes in groups.  We were in charge of teaching the children on the life of a knight and how to become a knight.  The below picture is the booth that we put together for the event.

Encounter with a friendly seal at Elkhorn sleuth

During a trip that Christine and I took a few months back to the Monterey area we took a kayak trip into Elkhorn Sleugh.  We encountered many friendly seals and sea otters, it was a wonderful adventure.

Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reserve, Holy City and Mt Scott

During our trip back from Altus in January we were pleasantly surprised to find such a jewel of a US Park as the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Reserve.  

 We saw these 4 Bison just as soon as we entered the refuge.  This refuge was created in part to save the bison, that were at the time about to all be killed off by hunters.  There are now over 650 in the refuge.

 The visitor center was very well done, and showed us a movie on the history of the refuge as well as many wonderful exhibits to walk through.

 We had to time this picture just right to catch the prairie dogs kissing...

 The Holy City is the place of the first passion play in America.  I found a couple Roman Guards roaming around the area.

 The refuge is also home to many herds of Texas Long horns.
