Medieval Faire

On Friday the homeschool group put on a Medieval Faire to teach the kids about life during this time period.  Christine and Cody were in charge of 1 of the 6 teaching booths that each of the kids would visit for about 15 minutes in groups.  We were in charge of teaching the children on the life of a knight and how to become a knight.  The below picture is the booth that we put together for the event.

The feast to start the night, the kids were given chicken legs, bread and cheese, see if you can find Ashley.

Encounter with a friendly seal at Elkhorn sleuth

During a trip that Christine and I took a few months back to the Monterey area we took a kayak trip into Elkhorn Sleugh.  We encountered many friendly seals and sea otters, it was a wonderful adventure.

Wichita Mountains Wildlife Reserve, Holy City and Mt Scott

During our trip back from Altus in January we were pleasantly surprised to find such a jewel of a US Park as the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Reserve.
We saw these 4 Bison just as soon as we entered the refuge.  This refuge was created in part to save the bison, that were at the time about to all be killed off by hunters.  There are now over 650 in the refuge.
The visitor center was very well done, and showed us a movie on the history of the refuge as well as many wonderful exhibits to walk through.
We had to time this picture just right to catch the prairie dogs kissing...

The Holy City is the place of the first passion play in America.  I found a couple Roman Guards roaming around the area.
Cesar and the guard wanted their taxes

On top of the world...or at least Mount Scott.  What beautiful views.

The refuge is also home to many herds of Texas Long horns.

Ashley's newly updated room

The room before...

The room during...

The white box on the wall was for a big screen tv...just kidding, we painted a mural to put above the bed.

The Finished Product
(just kidding we did not paint the mural...it was a stick on)
Ashley wanted a Hawaiian room theme, so we purchased her a new comforter, accessories and a mural. We still have a few things to add, but Ashley is very happy with the results so far.

Oklahoma Natural History Museum

A few months ago when we were visiting Chicago Christine was wanting to go to the Natural History Museum to attend the Chocolate exhibit that they created to teach about all things chocolate. While we were in Chicago we learned that the exhibit was a traveling one and we just missed it! We found out that the next stop for it was Norman OK! A day before we came home we were able to visit the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. The museum far exceeded our expectations.

The Chocolate museum was very educational, I do think that the rest of the museum was more of a treat for us all. The Museum was very well done with an very large dinosaur exhibit. We saw the remains of a dinosaur with a neck that was 40 feet long as well as the largest dinosaur skull on earth! We had a great time learning about Oklahoma History!
